Three Generations. One Goal.
For three generations, the Rodal family has been involved in bringing beautiful Italian esrogim to Jewish communities, with one goal at the center of it all: quality you can see, backed by hashgacha and reliability you can trust.
The story began with my grandfather, a shliach in Montreal and the founder of Rodal’s, the well-known Judaica store that remains a familiar name in Montreal to this day.
Every year before Sukkos, my grandfather would travel to Italy to personally source esrogim for his customers and community in Montreal.
The tradition continued with my father, Rabbi Shmuel Rodal, who became a shliach in Milano, Italy. With my father now living in Italy, my grandfather began relying on him to travel south, select the esrogim, and send them back to Montreal.
My father also began selecting esrogim for his own community in Milano. As a longtime mashgiach, kashrus and careful supervision were already a central part of his life and work.
But what developed over those years went beyond simply knowing how to select an esrog.
Living in Italy and traveling south year after year meant building real relationships with the people who grow them. My father came to know the farmers personally—the families, their parents, their orchards and their trees. These weren't anonymous suppliers we found online or relationships established for a single season. They were connections built over many years.
And for me, that world has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
Since I was a small child, summers meant traveling with my father to Southern Italy. I grew up visiting the orchards, meeting the growers, watching my father work, and eventually working alongside him myself.
Today, I am proud to continue that tradition as the third generation.
Several of my brothers are involved with esrogim as well, and I took my own experience and lifelong connection to the Italian esrogim and created Esrogino.
Esrogino combines three generations of experience with something that has become increasingly important: knowing where your esrog comes from and knowing who stands behind it.
Our longstanding relationships in Italy give us a direct connection to the growers and orchards. Our family's background in hashgacha gives us an understanding of the responsibility involved. And our years of firsthand experience allow us to personally select esrogim with an eye for both quality and hiddur.
Three generations. One goal.
Beautiful Italian esrogim. Reliable hashgacha. Personal selection. And a name you can trust.
That's what our family has been doing for generations.
That's Esrogino.
